laparoscopy

A laparoscopy is a surgical procedure that investigates the internal organs of the body without the need for massive incisions.

The Laparoscope is inserted through a minute incision ,usually between five and ten millimeters long and a hollow needle is inserted. Carbon dioxide gas is then pumped through the hollow needle so that the abdomain wall is lifted off the internal organs and the Laparoscope is inserted so that the surgeon can view the organs to check any abnormality or damage and take samples. This minimally invasive surgery reduces recovery time. After procedure there is usually some pain and discomfort due to the gas still escaping from the body but symptoms usually digress after a day or so.

Syclix with Dr John Wickham have developed surgical instruments to aid this procedure giving the surgeon more acurate results.
